About the project

Shokeru.in.ua is a specialist online store for stun guns and self-defence products built on OpenCart 3. The work covered customer sign-in, the catalogue, product photography and information pages. A separate part of the project focused on preparing and transferring data: names, availability, prices, images and metadata are handled by tools built around the store’s structure.

What was delivered

The store uses a one-time email code for authentication. Customers follow a two-stage form, entering their email address and then the code they receive. The interface includes a countdown before another code can be requested. This flow also served as the basis for implementing similar authentication in other stores.

  • Products were added to the catalogue, prices and availability were synchronised, and Ukrainian product names were updated.
  • Product photography was refreshed, with 1024 × 1024 images used in the gallery and 500 × 500 images in product listings.
  • Warranty and returns, service and repair pages were added with separate URLs for the Ukrainian, Russian and English versions.
  • The new information pages were included in the footer navigation and XML sitemap.

Content preparation covered Ukrainian and Russian product data, categories, attributes, information materials and images. These were organised into structured datasets for further work: page copy is stored separately from SEO metadata, and filter data separately from descriptions. Each type of content can therefore be handled independently when populating the catalogue.

Technical approach

Authentication uses separate actions for sending and verifying a code. The code is stored in the session, while the client-side flow manages the transition between stages and requests for another email. A new code can be requested after 60 seconds.

PHP tools were prepared for synchronising catalogue data, adding missing products, filling category metadata and creating information pages. They preview changes by default, with a separate option to apply them. Updates to prices, statuses and names produce a record of the changes made, and database operations are preceded by backups.

Photography is downloaded through a separate process that retrieves original image files. Once prepared, the assets were transferred into the store’s catalogue and the image cache was refreshed. Gallery and listing image sizes are configured independently in the theme settings.

SEO and performance

Filtering, pagination and sorting use URLs with parameters incorporated into the URL path. Category metadata was populated using templates written for Shokeru. Language-specific slugs were prepared for the warranty and service pages, and their URLs were added to the information-page sitemap.

Product images are served through a WebP cache. Separate sizes for listings and galleries provide an appropriate presentation for each context: compact previews in the catalogue and larger photographs for inspecting product details.

The result is an updated OpenCart catalogue with email-code sign-in, prepared product materials and dedicated content maintenance tools. Store data, photography and supporting information pages now have defined update procedures.
